Fagli

The festival of masks

Happening in February, it’s celebrated to receive the blessings of the God before the upcoming harvest season, where the local men wear a floral headgear, a hand-knitted robe, and beautiful wooden masks, which are passed from generations. Wearing this unique traditional attire, they dance to the beats of drums amidst the beautiful snow capped mountains. This is an offbeat experience, which is known to few outside Kullu.

Diwali

The Festival of Lights

"Buddhi Diwali", as it’s known in Kullu, begins on the first ‘Amavasya’ after the regular Diwali. During the festival, people dance and sing folklore related to the epic Mahabharata through the night in front of bonfires.

Legend has it that the news of Lord Ram’s victorious return to Ayodhya reached late in these parts, due to which it was celebrated late in few remote villages of the state, including Sirmaur, Kullu and Shimla and the tradition continued.
